June 29th:

18th Annual All Chevy Show
Location: Diamond Hill Park                                    Cumberland, RI

At Diamond Hill Park in Cumberland - the 18th annual All Chevy Show!  A class for every Chevy made - 46 classes in all.  Three trophies were awarded per class, and free dash plaques to the first 300 vehicles entered!

And don't forget - EVERY FRIDAY NIGHT (weather permitting) - starting at 6:00 PM, the RICOA Chevy Show at the Stop 'n Shop on Mendon Road in Cumberland!  It's FREE, with some great raffle prizes available - come out to see the cars on Friday nights!


June 22nd:

Annual William O. Sowersby    Memorial Golf Tournament
Location: Middlebrook Country Club                       149 Pleasant Street                               Rehoboth, MA  02769

Another chance to come and play for our Wish Kids!  Foursomes or single players are welcome!  Don't hesitate to call and sign up, because entries fill up fast for this annual tournament - dinner and a great raffle take place after the rounds are complete.  Call Steve at (508) 672-3972 for next year's information!


June 11th:

Wishes Tropical Moonlight Cruise
Location: Aboard the Vista Jubilee                      Blount Marina, Gate 4                              Warren, RI

Hope you made your plans to join us aboard the "Vista Jubilee" for our annual "Wishes Tropical Moonlight Cruise!"  We set sail at 7:00 PM for our cruise around Newport Harbor - with a full buffet and lots of dancing to the sounds of DJ's "Just Juli" and "X-static Sounds!"  

We were all SOLD OUT for this year - thank you so much!  Make sure you put us on your calendar for next year, too!

North Bristol County Association of Realtors - 5th Annual Golf Outing!

For the entire month of May, Pampered Chef consultant Dawn Cribari donated a portion of her total sales from the website above to the children of A Wish Come True!

May 22nd:

Rhode Island Radio Hall of Fame Induction Dinner and Ceremony
Location: Rhodes-on-the-Pawtuxet                             60 Rhodes Place                            Cranston, RI

It was history in the making - the induction of the inaugural Class of 2008 for the newly-formed Rhode Island Radio Hall of Fame, presented by Navigant Credit Union!  

All proceeds from the induction ceremony and dinner at Rhodes-on-the-Pawtuxet in Cranston will benefit the children of A Wish Come True!

   

It was a celebration of radio in the Ocean State with your favorite stations and their personalities!   Master of Ceremonies Frank Coletta of NBC 10 kept the show moving - and AWCT Executive Director Deborah St. Peter welcomed the crowd on behalf of our children!

May 18th:

3rd Annual Chocolate Sunday!
Location: Pocasset Bay Manor                                  12 Old Pocasset Lane                      Johnston, RI

 

Chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate!  Our 3rd annual "Chocolate Sunday" on Sunday, May 18th was a huge success! Hosted by our wonderful friends at Pocasset Bay Manor in Johnston, this is always great fun, and for only $10, attendees had the chance to sample ALL of the great chocolate items! 

 

Baked goods, ice cream, drinks, candies and more - including low fat and no sugar!  

Thank you to Brian Loynds, Jennifer Cipalone, the entire staff and resident community of Pocasset Bay Manor, and their wonderful sponsors for their continuing support of our children.  $11,000 was raised, which is simply phenomenal!  Make your plans to join us next year for a great time - and great chocolate!

 


May 18th:

Mitchell & Matthew's                        Bike Run & Jam Session
Location: Effin's Last Resort Pub & Grill                      325 Farnum Pike                          Smithfield, RI

 

What a day!  We were out in Smithfield, for live entertainment and lunch - with a portion of the proceeds to benefit A Wish Come True!  The motorcycle run (over 200 bikes took part!) covered a total of 37 miles (weather permitting), beginning at the Truck Auto Plaza-Truck Stop, exit 5B in West Greenwich off of I-95 (junction of Rte. 102 and I-95).  

In honor of Mitchell and Matthew Sundstrum - thank you to everyone who took part and enjoyed the day!  More than $4100 was raised for the kids of A Wish Come True!


May 17th:

2nd Annual                                   Barry's Charity Golf Classic
Location: Newport National Golf Club                      324 Mitchell's Lane                      Middletown, RI

The tournament was a complete sell out again, and a huge success.  37 foursomes of golfers battled the weather in the morning, which gave way to sunshine and 70 degrees and provided for a beautiful day on the golf course!  It concluded with a steak and chicken dinner at Newport National.  

 

The tournament raised $10,000 to benefit A Wish Come True, which grants wishes to children in RI and southeastern Massachusetts who have life threatening illnesses.  The co-chairs for the tournament were Tommy Nasser, Rob Sirois, Jay Andrade and Nancy Manchester.  Tommy and Peter Barry are pictured at left, with Peter and AWCT Founder Rosemary Bowers on the right.

Also in attendance was a previous wish recipient, Pierce and his family.  Pierce's family traveled to Disney World for his wish and he shared his story about his trip and experience.  He's pictured here holding the trophy with the winning foursome.  Thank you to everyone at Barry Automotive, which has been able to support 10 wishes alone in the last year! 

Barry Automotive would like to thank all of their sponsors, golfers and volunteers.  Without them, the golf tournament would not be able to be the success that it is.  Barry's looks forward to hosting this tournament for many years to come!

March 2nd - April 27th:

Sunday Meat Raffles - And More!
Location: Benjamin's Sports Pub                                4 Stafford Road                               Tiverton, RI

11 different drawings each Sunday -- and be sure to hold on to your tickets from the previous week because the first drawing will be from the tickets you purchased the week before!  

Then it goes on from there, with various meats and other items available, plus a 60/40 drawing, a 50/50 drawing and the last one of the day -- a 70/30 drawing!  Thank you to everyone who attended and purchased, all to help the kids - more than $3800 was raised!


April 25th:

14th Annual                                      Wish Dinner Dance & Auction
Location: Venus De Milo                                           75 Grand Army Highway (Route 6)   Swansea, MA

What a great time, great food and a spectacular silent auction and raffle, all to benefit our wish kids!  And how about the sports stars - all signing autographs - who were in attendance!

April 23rd:

Making Magic Fashion Show & Dinner!
Location: Rhodes-on-the-Pawtuxet                             60 Rhodes Place                            Cranston, RI

The fashion show was so much fun, featuring models from television, radio and print media in Rhode Island!  

Appearing were:  Mark Patinkin, Providence Journal; Mario Hilario, Joe Kayata and Michelle Brown from NBC-10; Dan Yorke from WPRO Radio; Heather Gersten from Lite Rock 105!  Plus, Miss RI USA Amy Diaz took part, as did 13 former Miss Rhode Island pageant winners - it was fun to watch them "strut" their stuff wearing some great clothing from Sonya's, Coldwater Creek and Canterbury's in Cranston!

Marilyn Cocozza and Erika Kruse share the stage with Amy Diaz, as did two other "angels!"  Co-chairs for the event were Barbara Morse Silva of NBC-10 and Sue Stenhouse - thank you to Barbara, to Sue, and to everyone who took part and attended!  All proceeds ($3500) will go to granting wishes for our children.


Feb. 9th - April 12th:

Saturday Meat Raffles - And More!
Location: Rhode Island Yacht Club                             1 Ocean Avenue                            Cranston, RI

What did the week's raffle offer?  Meats, lobsters, electronics and much more!  Wish child Nathan is pictured here picking up his choice of lobster!  Proceeds from these Saturday raffles benefit all of our wish kids - thanks to everyone at the RI Yacht Club, and to all who attended and purchased raffle tickets - $12,000 was raised this year!


March 30th:

3rd Annual "Spa-a-thon"                    For the Whole Family!
Location: MedAesthetic Day Spa                           1402 Tucker Road                        Dartmouth, MA

All for our kids, the service providers pampered you with: 

  • Hair cuts 

  • Mini manicures

  • Mini massages and more for the ladies & gentlemen 

  • And the kids, too! 

100% of the fees will benefit our special children at A Wish Come True, to the tune of more than $2900!  Thank you to everyone who took part, and to our wonderful volunteers at MedAesthetic Day Spa!


March 30th/Feb. 24th:

Game Dinner & Raffle!
Location: Warwick FOP Club                                     95 Tanner Ave.                                    (Next to the Warwick Police Station) Warwick, RI

Sponsored by the RI Brotherhood of Correctional Officers, the March 30th event was the second of TWO game dinners & raffles to benefit A Wish Come True!  The two events brought in more than $1700 - a great meal, and raffle tickets for a great cause - our wish kids!  Thank you to everyone who took part!

March 27th:

Laughter & Wishes II!
Location: St. John's Club                                            1365 Rodman Street                                Fall River, MA

Massachusetts Author Steven Manchester, and friends, joined with A Wish Come True in making dreams a reality by hosting the Laughter & Wishes II Comedy Night at St. John’s Club in Fall River, MA on Thursday, March 27, 2008.

Four hilarious stand-up comics took the stage to make the audience laugh themselves all the way to their wallets and purses. 



All proceeds from Laughter and Wishes II benefit A Wish Come True - to the tune of more than $11,000!

Thank you to Steven Manchester, pictured above with AWCT founder Rosemary Bowers and Brad Cowen, for his hard work and dedication in putting this night together!


January 13 - March 23:

Sunday Lobster Raffles!

Every Sunday - starting January 13th, through March 23rd!  Great prizes – huge lobsters, various meats and more!  Sponsored by the EPFOPA, who donated $1000 from their raffle proceeds to benefit A Wish Come True!  Thank you to everyone who purchased tickets - and to the EPFOPA!


March 8th:

19th Annual                                 Downing Memorial Dinner Dance
Location: Quidnessett Country Club                     North Kingstown, RI

A wonderful time - a cash bar cocktail hour started things off at 6:00 pm, followed by a wonderful dinner at 7.  Dancing followed soon afterward - plus a few added surprises!  $12,000 was raised - thanks so much to all who attended, and a special thank you to a dear friend of A Wish Come True, Rita Downing!  She is pictured on the left with wish recipient Vincent, and her volunteers and supporters!


March 3rd:

Clam Boil!

LePage's Seafood served some tasty items from their menu, and proceeds from those sales went to our Wish kids!  A silent auction and raffle rounded out the night - raising more than $5000!  Thank you to Beatrice Mosa, Jarmail LePage, Mary Ann Santos and Jennie Kirker (pictured L to R above); Carol, Jarmail and Eric LePage (L to R below) and everyone who placed an order, or bought raffle tickets!

Express Yourself - Kids' Collages

Dr. Tim's "Klimb for Kids"

The latest information from Dr. Tim Warren on his "Klimb for Kids" and his quest to reach the summit of Mount Everest! 

Dr. Tim gave a multi-media presentation, updating his plans for tackling the world's tallest peak this spring - on behalf of the children of A Wish Come True!  Discussion of the mental and physical challenges that lie ahead, his climbing team, and his school initiative enabling students to stay in touch with him during the ascent were all very informative!

A fabulous time - and the weather wasn't all that bad, either!

Celebrating the new year in style - for A Wish!

Miss Rhode Island USA, Amy Diaz, joined with the Newport Polar Bears for the plunge into the Atlantic!

The PLUS was after the plunge - at the Atlantic Beach Club at Easton Beach in Newport - with a raffle, an auction, food,  music and fun, all for the children of A Wish Come True!  Amy Diaz is pictured here with the Polar Bears, and wish child Kathleen and her family - $6300 was raised!  Congratulations, and thank you to everyone who plunged - into the water or not!

November 10th:

American Girl Fashion Show

A Wish Come True is proud to announce its affiliation for this event with American Girl Programs!  The American Girl Fashion Show is a fun-filled afternoon for girls and their families, friends and favorite dolls!  Celebrate the experience of being a girl, whether yesterday or today, through a colorful presentation of historical and contemporary fashions.  Enjoy elegant refreshments, enter to win door prizes, and learn how clothing has changed over the years to reflect history, culture and girls' individual styles.  Truly, a special girl’s day out with mom, grandma, family and friends that she will never forget!   

American Girl Programs offer non-profit organizations the opportunity to raise funds for children’s charities.  Blending learning with entertainment, the American Girl Fashion Show offers a unique, memorable experience for girls, their families and friends.

Miss Rhode Island USA, Amy Diaz, lent her experience on the runway to many of the children who will be participating in the fashion shows at a recent practice session!  Amy has been most gracious with her time for all of our kids!

November 4th:

2nd annual "Tailgate for A Wish!"

It was a great day of football watching and great tailgating, as the Patriots traveled to Indianapolis to take on the Colts!   

For a $10 ticket, fans enjoyed a fabulous buffet of favorite tailgating foods - hot dogs, pizza, wings and more!  All you can eat!  Plus drink specials, trivia contests, a raffle and a great silent and live auction for fabulous sports prizes.  Former Patriots players Peter Brock, Roland James and coach Rick Buffington were in attendance  to schmooze and sign autographs!  

The girls from CES Boxing did their best to sell those raffle tickets!  Did you miss out on them?  

 

Our volunteers were ready and waiting for some serious football fans - and some serious tailgating!

Thanks to Noah and Regina of Snookers - who set up the tailgate buffet!  Great food - it was awesome!

George Bowen Promotions and Jerry Coli Photography are great friends of A Wish Come True - we had fabulous stuff for our silent and live auctions!  Did you win your favorite?  We raised $4100 for wishes - thank you to everyone who bid or bought raffle tickets!

 

Snookers was packed - and the place was rockin' for the Patriots and Colts game!  Don't miss out on this event next year - it was great fun for everyone!

Gene Hutnak Photography held their Annual Halloween Open House on Wednesday, October 31st from 1 to 5 pm.  Little ghosts and goblins in costume were photographed in their pumpkin patch, with treats and goodie bags provided for both young and old!  As they have done over the past 16 years, part of the proceeds were be donated to A Wish Come True.  Their studio is located at 640 Putnam Pike in Greenville, RI.  Check them out on the web at www.genehutnak.com.
